>> the man accused of being the ringleader will be sentenced on monday. he faces a prison sentence of more than three decades. >> this is a picture of a at the man looking his best, happy and content. but in august of last year, the 76-year-old not want anyone to see his face after a beating left him with a broken i saw it and other injuries. he was fishing when investigators say three people punched him, kicked him, and beat him with a stick repeatedly. the court records say that police would not have happened if he had been a white man. >> if he pleads guilty today -- and >> more than one year later, he pleads guilty and the deal will put away for more than 30 years. >> this is a plea agreement we feel very good about because we are going to get this person off the street for 31 years. >> we were unable to reach the

family after the hearing. this is an interview we did days after the beating. >> you have to try to figure out a way of keeping this a way. i don't know because of these gangs are forming and where we go from here? >> the sentence includes time for the carjacking the day of the attack, first-degree assault, the hate crime charge and an attack on a corrections officer this past may. as far as the teenagers in the case, what was said this to juvenile court and the other trial is scheduled to begin monday, the same day of sentencing. >> to your health, specifically your health care. special provisions of the new health care law take effect tomorrow. the president touted them today on the eve of the six month

vigilante saying let's attack the mall. these are crimes of opportunity. >> the thieves made off with $100,000 of merchandise from a jewelry store. there are three patterns of robberies, possibly with different suspects. they have issued warrants in some of them. >> some of them pass notes, others go in pretending to buy watches and produce a handgun or a weapon that rob the store. there was one group, the group we took down, using fake weapons. >> but police are searching for suspects in the other group with no surveillance. >> it's ridiculous. you can't go nowhere without something happening. >> people can't enjoy having relaxation. >> baltimore police are doing what they can to keep patients and merchants safe. >> >> the it will work with the

store and make sure cameras are positioned in certain places. we're going to see a heavy presence of plainclothes officers. >> mall officials say they are increasing security and release a statement saying the safety and well-being of our shoppers and retailers are always our top concerns. mondawmin mall continues to work closely with police to provide a safe and secure environment for its shoppers and merchants. meanwhile, police are asking everyone to be extra vigilant and report anything suspicious. >> more testimony today in a trial of three men charged in the murder of a former baltimore city councilman. to date, it was the primary investigator on the stand. let's go live outside court house sees for the latest. -- court house east for the

latest. >> he told jurors how investigators collected dna from the defendants. the detective told the jury he was the lead homicide detective in these it timber 2008 murder of a former baltimore city councilman, ken harris, and the armed robbery of the lounge. the detective questioned him about securing the crime scene. the defense asked why in such a high-profile case, he only determined to handle the investigation. >> it was a complex crime scene which is a big guy maintained all along. it seems to me that the detective should have had the assistance of at least four or five other homicide detectives to process the car, the bar, the inside and outside of the bar up -- >> he was shot outside when he tried to drive away.

the toyota corolla was taken away for processing. inside the bar, he watched surveillance video captured during the robbery. he also talked about what the robbers did. he then told them where to look for fingerprints and dna evidence. the defense wondered why some things were checked and others were bypassed. >> the bar was never tested in the register was never tested. i watched that video and it is clear the person who climbs over the bar actually put his left hand of the bar. clear as can be. he made the determination that should not be tested. >> after finding a mask and latex gloves and getting a tip that they may have committed the crime, police obtained a search and seizure warrant had collected dna. a jacket believed to belong to -- believed to belong to jerome williams was confiscated and tested for dna. the defense questions the validity of the results found

from testing certain items for dna. >> as you will hear, there are two unknown people whose dna comes up on multiple things. we do not know who these people are. in particular, there's an unknown number to use dna comes back on the mask and jacket you heard about today. i have no clue who this is. >> the detective told jurors that the cash stolen from the lounge would never -- was never recovered. testimony continues tomorrow. >> another day, another of local families displaced by fire. this time in baltimore county. it happened around 9:30 this morning on real princess line in woodlawn. officials say the fire caused a propane tank to explode. the six people inside were able to safely escaped. the red cross is assisting that family. this fire comes after a family is left without a home yesterday

volunteer the shelter. the man was accused of beating a miniature pinscher with a pipe in early august. the dog was severely injured and had to be the nicest. he face four counts of them will be used but prosecutors said they would drop the case if he stayed out of trouble and perform 50 hours of community service at the spca. the executive director said his application was a media leigh denied. >> -- was immediately denied. >> this would not have happened if this happened to a child in the discharge of working for children for his rehabilitation. >> the spca was never consulted about the recommendation. no word yet on how the case will now move forward. >> something very unusual is that to happen tomorrow in a

baltimore county coroner. >> the case on the docket is 13, involving a felony theft. but the suspect is a man that made his living as a lawyer. -- a case on the docket is routine. been a painful few years. she has had surgery to correct problems with her spinal cord and back and is not done yet. >> now i find out i need another surgery on my back because almost the same condition is happening. my legs are giving out my arms are numb. >> unable to work, she hoped to receive workers' compensation. the accident occurred while she was on the job. she won her worker's compensation claim, but the benefit checks is a whole other story. >> is that your signature? >> know. >> the allegation is he forged the jackson took the money. >> following the money trail.

>> i have done this for 33 years and i've never seen anything like this. >> now your forecast. >> we have had a summer-like day on this last full day of summer. fall begins at 11:00 and nine this evening. it still feels like summer. right on cue, a couple of thunderstorms roll across the region. some strong storms across the maryland-pennsylvania border. one storm moved across the maryland line and another follows on its heels through the manchester area, heading toward the reservoir. looks like a secondary line of storms is coming out of pennsylvania which may have a chance of working its way over maryland the next couple of hours. most areas will not get the beneficial rains from the storms. a few spots will and some gusty rains are associated with them as well.

as we head toward fall, '90s showing up again. 15 degrees warmer than normal. 93 at the inner harbor. nothing in the rain gauge at the airport so far. 88 in eastern. ocean city in the upper '70's, but hot in hagerstown. along with the heat, we see the do. numbers getting into the '70s. the higher the do point, the more fuel for thunderstorms to move across the region. it should be staying well to the north with showers crossing over the eastern shore. just about the time falls beginning, that should be winding down. the autumnal equinoxes -- fall is coming with a storm or two. the front helping to trigger the

storms, you can see the clouds ahead of that getting to baltimore and falling apart, lifting to the north during the day tomorrow. a steady supply of hot and humid air continuing to come our way thursday and friday. a mix of clouds and son with temperatures getting into the low and mid nineties before finally a dry cold front comes through which heat relief over the weekend. the wind will start briefly out of the northeast but swing back around to the south. same scenario on the day. that will keep temperatures above normal tomorrow and monday as well. -- and muggy as well. lower eastern shore with another hot and humid day and temperatures around 87 degrees. a couple of things to watch -- a tropical storm but very weak and metal -- lisa in the eastern atlantic. this cluster of storms is being

monitored and that could become a tropical system in the next couple of days. right now, no major storms to be concerned with. like fall, but it will cool off a little. >> nine times in his career, his run multiple interceptions in a game. in the previous ones, the only three interceptions ones, so the ravens of that ability to bounce back quickly will serve the ball sunday. the ravens seem confident he'll be caught in the home opener. they also want to avoid a losing streak. a 65 yard receiving touchdowns. yes, and carried the ball, returned kickoffs and punts.

he announced he will not talk to the media for the rest of the season. he will host his radio show that did not say why he did not want to talk to the media. the early struggles over the passing game and only having three interceptions likely have a role in the decision. in a refreshing change of pace, the orioles have as shot at a sleep tonight in boston. that will squash the red sox last gasp hopes of landing a playoff spot. that put pressure on their opponents all week long. that broke up a 1-1 game, putting the orioles in front to stay. in the ninth inning, and throwing error. down the line in third, way over

bob ehrlich pretends to be for the working guy... but he's not on our side. i thought i knew bob ehrlich, but then i found out... he raised property taxes on every maryland family... and business. he increased college tuition... by 40%. 40%. and i thought i knew bob ehrlich. he was against raising the minimum wage. made $2.5 million... working for a lobbying firm. $2.5 million? he's not really on my side. with this tough economy, we really need a governor on our side.
